There have been fresh calls for an increase in funding and maintenance for air-conditioning units across the College after a Year 10 student allegedly melted into a puddle and then evaporated into water vapour during one particularly boiling Religion lesson in the F building.
Reports suggest the room reached roughly 5,500°C, equivalent to the surface temperature of the Sun, or about half the temperature of seatbelts and concrete on a hot day. Forensic investigation by Mentone Manspreaders, consisting of a conversation with the maintenance crew who fixed the unit, reveals that the room became so warm the air conditioner simply decided to give up.
The incident follows a broader trend across the College. Advocates say many rooms in the F, S and M buildings, also known as the Senior classrooms, are older and less equipped to deal with Australia’s increasingly hot summers.
The College responded to our request for comment by saying that student satisfaction and learning environments remain its top priorities, pointing Manspreaders towards the $1.95 million upgrades to bathrooms in both Middle Years and Senior buildings.
